Four seemingly unrelated tales of madness that have one oddly reoccurring theme, a blue dress that haunts the subjects of these short stories.
A young neighbor girl is found beaten and bloody on an aging couples back porch, becoming the strangest dinner guest that they have ever encountered. The blue dress appears and disappears in the yard of a semi-retired junk collector, with alarming appeal. A strange twist on an old classic short story turns gruesome for a village of religious zealots. A man with a broken heart attempts to change his lost love's funeral plans.

The Blue Dress Paradigm: Four Unrelated Horror StoriesCraig Furchtenicht's four chilling horror stories, though in some ways unrelated, are linked together by their rural location, but more aptly by the presence of a woman' s elegant blue dress in each work. The stories depict the underlying horror present in "traditional", Christian small town values. Each deals with death in a way that genuinely takes you by surprise, although by the fourth story, I had begun to prepare myself for an unexpected twist.
Furchtenicht's stories may be short, but their effect on me will be lasting. I don't think I'll be purchasing a blue dress for any upcoming life event.

The Blue Dress Paradigm Four Unrelated Horror Stories edition by Craig Furchtenicht Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
The author is turning me into a fan of short stories! I recently read and enjoyed another of his books so decided to give this one a go and it was again great fun. All of the stories feature a blue dress and the variety of the stories is very good but they are all a bit dark/spooky.
In a short story you don't have much time to bring the characters alive but I'm really impressed how the author does manage to invest personality in each character in a very few words.
I recommend this collection and look forward to reading more by the author.
A cheeky little collection of chilling stories, each a story in their own right but inexplicably linked by the appearance of a blue dress. Hence the title of the collection I suppose.
I love Craig Furchtenicht's style of writing, it's loose and easy but with a threat that hangs in the air as thick as oil. There's a Palahniuk style vibe to each of the tales too, an unworldly kind of flavour that works extremely well in the author's favour, and although you can sense the influence, it never takes on the form of parody, Furchtenicht's style is entirely his own. He takes you gently by the hand into rural, God-fearing towns in America, introduces you to some really nice people, then as soon as you've got a sense of safety about you he spins you round quick as a flash and plunges the knife in deep, leaving you twitching in a pool of your own complacency.
Well written, creepy as hell, and very entertaining. Worth a few hours of anybody's time. If you disagree I'll start leaving a blue dress outside your house, you'll soon change your mind.
I always try to guess what will happen at the end of everything I read. I was wrong on all four of these stories, which is great. It was unexpected and I LOVE THAT! The stories were well-written and creative. I will recommend this to anyone!
I enjoyed these short stories. Sort of a twist between Twilight Zone and Stephen King writings. Kept me interested and I finished the book in about an hour and a half. Well written and suspenseful.
I enjoyed reading all four stories in The Blue Dress Paradigm. This is a very entertaining collection. Each story has surprising plot twists and suspense. Definitely a good buy.
I really enjoyed these stories all were different and have you guessing what is going to happen and always with the wrong conclusion. I love it when I can find something original and with a twist that I don't see coming, would like to see more of these type stories from this author, maybe a whole series of tales about a blue dress. I would definitely buy more & recommend to friends.
Four very well-written, well-crafted horror stories in the vein of Stephen King short stories. These stories draw you in with believable characters, settings, and dialogue and then turn very, very dark.
A quick read; recommended.
Individual Ratings
The Unexpected Dinner Guest 4
I don't want to give anything away, but this one is not for the squeamish; it gets you right in the gut.
The Blue Dress 5
Very dark imagery wrapped in a well-woven tale. The strongest story of the four, and my favorite.
Day of Honoring 3
Since this was a bit of a twist on a classic, the end was predictable.
Raymond's Wake 4
A little confusing at first, but craftily summarized in the last sentence.
I look forward to reading more works from this author.
